People always ask me if they can make their juice or smoothie ahead of time or the night before to drink in the morning.  The answer is yes.

fresh is always best, but sometimes that is not always convenient or practical.

I’m a big advocate for cooking once (or blending in this case) and eating twice.  In fact, I often make a large smoothie for breakfast and save half for an afternoon snack.  Getting the blender out and cleaning it once is a definite time saver!

Since air oxidizes the nutrients, the key is to store the smoothie in a mason jar (or any kind of jar) with the liquid filling to the top and sealing it with a lid.  If you find your smoothie doesn’t fill all the way to the top of the jar, add some water until the jar is full.  I suggest consuming within 24 hours – otherwise the taste does change and not for the better!

You can also add some lemon juice to your smoothie or juice.  The extra vitamin C will also help prevent oxidation.

I always pack food with me when I know I’ll be out for several hours – see picture above. This is what I packed:

  1. Green Smoothie in a recycled spaghetti jar
  2. Raw nuts that came in a convenient snack size pack from Trader Joes
  3. Water with 2 drops of lemon essential oil (love my glass water bottle!)
