My kids were begging me to make them the sloppy joes that they had at Grandma’s house so I was determined to find a recipe that met my clean eating standards.  Most of the sloppy joe canned items are loaded with ingredients that I don’t want my kids eating like corn syrup (2nd ingredient), natural flavors and preservatives.

I like this recipe because I usually have all these ingredients on hand and I almost always have some grass-fed ground beef stocked in my freezer.  So it becomes an easy go-to meal when I am in a crunch!

INGREDIENTS:

1 pound grass fed turkey or beef

1/4 chopped onion (sometimes I use dried onion if in a hurry!)

1/2 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp prepared yellow mustard (Look for clean ingredients – I like Trade Joe’s organic mustard)

3/4 cup ketchup ( I like Whole food’s 365 brand – yes it has sugar but no HFCS)

DIRECTIONS:

1. Brown the ground beef and onion and drain off the liquids

2. Stir in the remaining ingredients, reduce heat and simmer until well mixed.  Season with salt and pepper to taste.

ENJOY – my kids did!
